The race has started!
The race has now officially started! Charlie left the start line in good spirits and should be riding strong. We are at the end of San Francisquito canyon waiting for the racers to show. All the preparations this morning went swimmingly and things are looking up. The crew is all anxious and excited. The general feeling here is everyone is happy and glad to finally get the 2009 Furnace Creek 508...

10 Hours Till Showtime
508 miles on a bike doesn’t seem like it should be that hard, right? One mile at a time, nose to the grindstone, keep moving forward, stay positive. Okay, but what about my butt? Seriously, I’m not kidding. Okay maybe I am because butt jokes just never get old. I just hope I don’t make an ass of myself. Honestly I am not afraid of the miles but I am wary of the accompanying...

Dinner and Strategy with the crew
We just got back to the hotel room after a nice pasta dinner with Charlie and crew. We talked strategy and triathlon stories. Charlie had a big spinach salad and a side of pasta. Now back in the room everyone is trying to do exact math in their heads to figure out the perfect mix we want in charlie’s energy liquid cooler. Just how do you calculate ounces of ice without a scale? Interesting...

Places you can follow the 508
We realize we aren’t the only show in town when it comes to people riding the 508. There are a number of other cyclists that will be tweeting, blogging and sending up smoke signals so others can follow along from the comfort of their office chair or leather sofa. We have a number of channels we will be following. We thought we might share with you all. 508 sources and cyclists on Twitter: ...

Special Offer from EPMartin Watches
Hey everyone, I just wanted to give you a heads up on a special offer we have worked out with a partner. I will be providing more details tonight, but basically, because of the attention I am getting with my riding of the Furnace Creek 508, EP Martin is going to be offering a discount to my followers to get a percentage off of the list price of the Running the Sahara watches. You can see them...

Furnace Creek 508 Training Update
On July 13th of this year I ran the Badwater Ultra Marathon faster than I ever had before. This was a surprising result but one that I was really happy about. Once I realized that the race clock was not broken and that I did actually run sub 26 hours, I immediately realized that I had to take another shot at the Death Valley Cup record. I tried for the record two years ago but came up well short....

It looks like Adventure Corps have updated their webcast for the 2009 Furnace Creek 508. Obviously it isnt being updated until the race, but you can bookmark it to watch live results of the race, including time splits, photos and other race news. The folks at Adventure Corps were kind enough to include a link to our little site here. Thanks to Chris Kostman and the AC crew. Here is a link to the...

They will be following this schedule: 200 miles day 1, 195 miles day 2 and 75 miles day 3 We are working on getting Charlie’s SPOT device working so we can all track their progress along the parkway. What we are doing in preparation
In preparation for the race, there is obviously a lot going on. Charlie is riding, a lot, Justin is riding with Charlie, the rest of us are preparing mentally as well as some odds and ends. We are in the process now of trying to secure some amber flashing lights to put on the back of the truck. Speaking of truck, Charlie was able to secure us a 4 door truck to use as the crew vehicle. It should be...
